About the Artwork:

Lavender is a plant that can be used to treat anxiety, stress and insomnia, it is a soft shade of purple.

Purple is a mixture of two opposing colours, blue and red. With the active warmth of red and the passive coolness of blue, purple becomes a stable middle ground between the two colours. It synchronizes with both warm and cool, melancholic or ecstatic emotions, It is a colour of balance and duality.

As someone who sometimes struggles to find emotional balance in my life, purple has become a symbol of duality. Life can often feel unstable, and sometimes all we need to do is find a way to ground ourselves.

The blue parrot on the girl’s back symbolizes the weight of burdensome thoughts. Oftentimes, without realizing, our mind repeats unhelpful mantras back to us, like a parrot. The parrot has done nothing wrong, it could help her if she recited better words to herself.

The red robin on her mug symbolizes action. After her tea she intends to get up and do something positive for herself.

The otter represents someone she can talk to about her current predicament. She is not alone, even though sometimes she feels like she is.

The butterflies are a metaphor for change and rebirth. In the simple act of deciding to make a positive change, she has already made one.

Her antlers guard her, but she has let her guard down and opened up to friends, she is vulnerable in this state, but she chose the right friends to let in.

A faint smile across her face is beginning to show as she is already starting to feel better.
